Android Running On Eee PC 1000H

Guess the Android platform is not limited to just T-Mobile's G1 and its ilk, but has been made to run on an Asus Eee PC 1000H, although that does beg the question of "why?". Two guys at VentureBeat found it a snap to get Android up and running on the Eee PC 1000H, even offering the support required for functional computing such as sound, graphics and even Wi-Fi connectivity. This isn't a first though, as a Google developer did manage to get Android running on an Eee PC 701 a few weeks back. Does this mean the age of more affordable MIDs is about to dawn on us that runs on Android? Interesting times are ahead this year for Android, that's as much as we can tell. Microsoft Live Search targets iPhone

Microsoft's Live Search team hasn't been ignoring the iPhone, despite Google's position as the default search provider for Apple's mobile device. In the MacRumors forums last week, the Live Search team was touting a new mobile version for the iPhone. But there's a catch: Rather than releasing an iPhone app, the Redmond company's search group has tuned its mobile site for the iPhone's Safari browser. BlackBerry 8900 Curve for T-Mobile U.S Landing at on February 18th (Rumor)

The word on the street is that T-Mobile USA will finally have the BlackBerry 8900 Curve in store on February 18th, and that would not be one minute too early (actually, we would prefer tomorrow morning...). If you have missed it, the Blackberry 8900 packs a lot of the goodness from its sibling, the BlackBerry Bold, expect that it has a slower CPU and no 3G access. The good news is that it will be lighter. We have confirmation from T-Mobile employees that the 8900 Curve (codenamed Javelin) will indeed arrive in the first quarter of 2009, so this date seems plausible, but not certain. It is already available in Germany, and one was even sold on eBay for $17100. Microsoft Anti-Cross Site Scripting Library V3.0 Beta

The Microsoft Anti-Cross Site Scripting Library V3.0 (Anti-XSS V3.0) is an encoding library designed to help developers protect their ASP.NET web-based applications from XSS attacks. It differs from most encoding libraries in that it uses the white-listing technique -- sometimes referred to as the principle of inclusions -- to provide protection against XSS attacks. This approach works by first defining a valid or allowable set of characters, and encodes anything outside this set (invalid characters or potential attacks). The white-listing approach provides several advantages over other encoding schemes. Lenovo Ophone Oozes With Beauty

What's the most beautiful phone in the world at the moment? After ruling out high end handsets from Amosu and Vertu, we're probably left with the iPhone or something similar. Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but the iPhone has some pretty strong competition in the form of the Lenovo Ophone. This Android-powered touch-sensitive handset was specially designed to comply with China Mobile's Open Mobile System, bringing together Android's core with support and applications for the carrier's homegrown TD-SCDMA 3G network. In layman's terms, you won't find the Lenovo Ophone in use outside of China, so better hope those folks at HTC will take a leaf out of Lenovo's book and come up with something similar in the future. Nokia N97 Hands-On

I have been able to play with a Nokia N97, Nokia's first full-display smartphone, and let me tell you that this is the most exciting N-Series phone to date (even if I really like the E71, read review). The first thing that stroke me was the size of the phone: it is much smaller and thinner than the official product photos would let one believe (uh-oh, someone might be getting into trouble here). Secondly, the user-interface, while familiar to S60 users, is finger-friendly. That sounds like a "duh", but most Windows Mobile "touch-phones" aren't (See our HTC Touch-Pro review). I will reserve my final comments and judgment for when the final software is released (sometimes in the first half of next year), but so far, I'm liking the direction in which this product going. We've all read about news that Google will be offering a special variant of its T-Mobile G1 to Android developers, known as the Android Dev Phone 1, but the resourcefulness of us humans continue to amaze as word of a new hack is made available, capable of turning any T-Mobile G1 into unlocked Android Dev Phone 1. All you need are the relevant know-how as well as some guts to perform the instructions as laid down below. The conversion process will require a few paltry steps that include applying the update.zip file and rebooting the handset, resulting in an unlocked G1 that can run unsigned code.
